When summer settles over the rice paddies of Novara, the morning air has a particular quality: still, warm, broken only by the calls of swifts. These are the days when La Torre dei Canonici, a fifteenth-century residence in the countryside between Novara and Milan, shows its most restful side.

The Residence welcomes you to the quiet of its courtyards, among exposed brickwork and pointed-arch windows that frame a horizon of fields. The noise of the city falls away at once. What remains is something simple, time-honoured, never trite: to take the time to do nothing, in a place made for exactly that.

Our wellness proposal

On the ground floor of the twin building beside the Torre you will find the Spa of the Residence, a space for those who want to slow down: a Finnish sauna, a Turkish bath with aromatic steam, a hydromassage tub beneath a vaulted brick ceiling, experience showers, and a relaxation room with herbal teas on hand. There is no pretence of a grand city spa here, but the care of a small, gathered space where the few people present can each enjoy their own moment.

The wellness area is open every day from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm, by reservation, with at least one day’s notice. Access is offered at €35 for a half day (around four hours) or €70 for the full day, regardless of your stay; this is how we keep the space orderly, never crowded, reserved for a small number of guests at a time. We do not offer treatments or massages: the Spa at the Torre is a place for a personal ritual, not a beauty salon. Towels, slippers, bathrobes and changing room are at your disposal, and for those who stay in our rooms, bathrobe and slippers are already waiting on arrival.

Why here, and not elsewhere

The Residence has eleven rooms, each different from the next, each with its own flower name, its own light, its own piece of period furniture. This is not the scale of a hotel; it is the measure of a house opening its rooms. It is this gathered scale that makes the Torre a rare setting for a wellness weekend: in the courtyard there are no queues for breakfast, the shared rooms hold the silence you expect of a country residence, and in the Spa you will never find yourself competing for space.

Then there is the place itself. The Residence stands at Lumellogno, on the edge of Novara, among rice paddies that change colour three times over the season: from the blue of the water that floods them, to the green of growth, to the gold of ripening. This is real countryside, and in the evening, from the windows of the rooms, you can hear the frogs and watch the light settle slowly over the fields.

A Technogym room, for those who keep up their routine

Alongside the Spa, the Residence offers a small fitness room with Technogym equipment, available to guests who prefer to start their morning with a session before moving on to the sauna, or to close a long day with something more active. The room is part of the wellness area and follows the same hours; it is not a city gym and does not pretend to be, but for a careful workout in the quiet of the countryside it is exactly enough.

For those coming from Milan

From Milan you reach La Torre dei Canonici in a little over an hour, leaving the Tangenziale Ovest and following the A4 motorway westbound toward Turin. From Malpensa Airport the Residence is around 40 minutes by car, a distance that makes a wellness weekend a real option for those returning from an international trip or planning one. The internal car park, monitored by CCTV and open-air, costs €10/night per car; alternatively you can leave your car outside, at no cost. For those travelling with a small dog, we welcome you with a supplement of €20/night.

When to come

June and July are the months when the rice paddies move through their greenest season, and the long days let you return to the Spa after a walk through the fields at sunset. September, for those who prefer milder temperatures and a more golden light, is the month many of our guests come back to year after year. Toward the end of the month, from the fields around the Residence, you may watch the rice harvest: the combine harvesters working until dusk, the air filled with the scent of straw, the paddies emptying one after another. Weekends in June and July remain the most requested time for the Spa: we suggest writing to us a few weeks ahead, so we can propose the room best suited to you, and booking your wellness access at the moment of confirmation.

Here time asks nothing in return; you simply let it run, between the steam of the sauna and the silence of the fields.
